I have spent an entire lifetime creating art and I truly believe I will spend the remainder of it doing the same. My name is Brooke Weatherington and I am an artist. Be it ink, graphite, or a computer, there is nothing I love more than watching my own creations come to life before me.
I have dedicated three years of my life to developing a comic of my own. It all started with a song, as it often does. I listened to a song and a story took shape in my mind. I made notes, I wrote and I wrote, determined not to forget a single detail. I made rough sketches, so as not to lose any ideas. I polished everything, I added details. I am endlessly proud of my comic. It is the culmination of everything I have learned throughout my life as an artist. It is a story of tragedy, mistakes, growth, and relationships. I want people to read it and feel for the characters. Feel what they feel.
I take inspiration from artists like Kafka Asagiri, Kohei Horikoshi, and Gege Akutami. I also find inspiration to keep working from my professors. Specifically, Jon Cone and Joshua Schaefer, two people who have encouraged me and led me for the past four years. The most important thing they have both taught me is to not be afraid to “ruin” art. It’s just a drawing, it’s just paper. It’s okay to erase what is there. Because I know that I can make it again, make it better. I don’t need to wait and improve on the next drawing. I can improve right now. And I have.
